Sunbathing.

There are days in Benglur when you can have all four seasons during the course of a day. And here's a man enjoying a brief spell of summer.

Sandalwood Friday Movie Release.

If there's a good movie release, the handicapped (and the aged) blackmarket ticket sellers manage to make a few bucks. Today's bigger draw seems to be a movie called Prem Kahani. With stiff competion from Shivarajkumar's Bhagyada Balegara.

Sandalwood Friday Movie Release.

What theatres are to malls, they are to Majestic too. A good Friday Release ensures that the mall or Kempegowda Road is full and the local economy is rolling.

These are three people from Majestic who are hoping that this week's release will bring in the crowds.

The picture postcard seller is a regular outside Santhosh. He's also a barometer about what's hot. According to him, the fastest selling postcards  in his collection is that of Darshan, also called the Challenging Star or Knockout Star.

Rubbing shoulders with him, outside Santhosh, is Astrologer Ramakrishna who takes the early morning bus from Bagalur. That's a tiny Kannada and Telugu speaking town just across the border in Tamil Nadu. Today is Friday and he is here earlier than usually to catch the fans who wait for a long time outside theaters. The swastik on his forehead acts as an irresistible advertising.

And finally there's the man selling Hello Cinestar outside today's big release - Yagna.

Shubh Labh.

S C Road, Majestic

They don't call her the Nagara Devate (City's Goddess) for nothing. Annamma Devi of Subedar Chatram Road, Majestic, resides in one of the oldest shrines in Benglur. She is a survivor from the city’s agrarian past. You usually find Annamma Devi temples next to old irrigation tanks and this temple was originally built near the old Dharmambudhi Tank.

The Dharmambudhi Tank is long gone and is now the city’s main bus terminus but Annamma Devi remains and continues to be popular. She has evolved into the Nagare Devate and continues to have a new meaning to a whole new generation of Benglureans drawn from different parts of the country.

And yesterday, the day the Marwari community in the Pete area celebrated the Kula Devata Puja, the temple and surrounding areas was filled with devotees offering grain, grams, milk and ghee. This picture was shot a few meters away from the shrine.

It's super cool in Majestic.

Also, forget Rama and Shiv Sena. In the background, behind the shades display, is the poster for Kunigal Taluk Dr. Vishnu Sena Samithi (R). I assume that it's Kannada film star Vishnuvardhan's fan club.

No pension. Here's an old lady holding the black movie tickets she's peddling in her left hand.
(Translations: The movie is called Junglee. The poster behind the old lady says: All Karnataka Duniya Vijay Fan Club.)

Election Fever Series No 1: The BSP Trojan Elephant, all set to roll.

The BSP (Election Symbol: Elephant) is hoping to bite into the Dalit vote and decide who will rule Karnataka next. Will they succeed? Also, that vehicle is a Tata Ace, advertised as the Chotta Haathi, giving the Trojan Hathi a lift.

Like Bangalore Autodrivers I can only take you to places I like to go.
